DETECT AND PROFILE AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION

A real-world AI-based infrastructure for screening and prediction of progression in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) providing accessible shared care

Milestone Achieved: I-SCREEN Launches Full-Scale Retinal Image Collection

The I-SCREEN project has achieved an important milestone: optometric retinal image uploads are now underway in all participating countries. With 22 optical and optometric sites across Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Spain, the UK, and France now fully operational, the project is moving steadily forward in its mission to develop AI-based pathways for the early detection of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Each site has been equipped with the necessary tools, training, and support, enabling a smooth rollout of image capture and uploads via the RetInSight cAIre platform. Already, over 900 images have been uploaded, bringing I-SCREEN closer to its goal of collecting 5,000 images from citizens aged 55 and over.

This coordinated effort marks the beginning of a Europe-wide screening initiative and highlights the crucial role optometrists and opticians play in supporting early disease detection through innovative, AI-powered solutions.
