From the Big Picture to the Practice Floor: An Optometrist’s View of I-SCREEN

Earlier this month, I-SCREEN marked World Sight Day with the scale of the challenge: 67 million people across the EU living with age related macular degeneration, most of them not yet aware of it.

This week we turn to the detail. What does AMD screening actually look like inside a working practice?

We spoke with Matjaž Mihelčič of the European Council of Optometry and Optics, a practitioner at Optika Mesec Bled in Slovenia and one of the I-SCREEN community screening sites. He describes what it takes to run the screening protocol alongside a fully booked appointment diary, and what it means for the patients who walk through the door.
