DETECT AND PROFILE AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION

A real-world AI-based infrastructure for screening and prediction of progression in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) providing accessible shared care

Early AMD screening made more accessible with I-SCREEN

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of vision loss after the age of 50, often progressing without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Through the I-SCREEN project, expert eye care is being combined with advanced artificial intelligence to support earlier, more accurate detection of AMD across Europe.

I-SCREEN enables primary eye care providers to capture high-resolution retinal images, which are then analysed for early signs of AMD, even before vision is affected. Where needed, patients can be referred more quickly for specialist assessment and treatment, improving outcomes and supporting personalised follow-up care.

Funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme, I-SCREEN aims to make high-quality eye screening more widely available, particularly for people at higher risk. By supporting early detection and informed prevention, the project contributes to protecting sight and maintaining quality of life as people age.

We invite you to explore the infographic and flyer to learn more about AMD, the importance of regular eye checks, and how I-SCREEN is helping protect sight through early screening and innovation.
