Bringing AI Eye Care Closer to Reality: I-SCREEN Meets in Ljubljana
On 29 May 2026, the project's consortium gathered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, for its 4th General Assembly, hosted by University Medical Centre Ljubljana. The meeting brought together partners from across Europe for a review of where the project stands and what needs to happen next.
The afternoon's most urgent conversations centred on patient recruitment. I-SCREEN is running three clinical studies simultaneously, and getting the right number of patients enrolled on schedule is one of the hardest parts of any clinical research programme. Clinical sites shared their experiences openly: what is working, what is not, and what practical steps can help bridge the gap between current numbers and the targets the project needs to meet.
Alongside that challenge, the consortium reviewed the latest advances in its AI models for retinal imaging, discussed plans for upcoming scientific publications, and mapped out dissemination and exploitation activities to ensure that I-SCREEN's results reach the clinicians, optometrists, and health systems that could put them to use.
The consortium expressed its appreciation to University Medical Centre Ljubljana for hosting and organising the meeting.
